About Us

Karamu Quilting is owned by Ross & Maria Munro and is situated in Omahu Road Hastings, in the sunny Hawkes Bay.
Karamu Quilting was initially established in 2003 as a longarm machine quilting service and in 2005 became the authorised dealer for the Gammill Quilting System and the Statler Stitcher computerised quilting system in New Zealand.
Maria has used a Gammill Classic stitch regulated machine since opening the business. In 2005 Ross joined Maria on a part time basis, using an Optimum stitch regulated machine, and later in the year a Statler Stitcher. We now both work in the quilting business and promote and sell the Gammill and Statler machines.
In 2003 and 2005 we attended the Australasian Machine Quilters Conference at Mittagonog, Australia where we took classes by tutors from both Australia and the USA. In 2005 and 2006 we travelled to Kansas City Missouri for the Machine Quilter Showcase (MQS). Over the six days of the conference we attended classes by some of the leading Quilters and tutors in the USA. We both completed the Gammill Dealer training at Gammill Head Quarters in West Plains Missouri in June 2005 and returned in October 2005 to do the Statler Dealer training at the Statler factory in Columbia Missouri.
